YORK: Man faces charges after a taxi was hijacked
Police said a man flagged down a cab near Oakwood Avenue and Rogers Road, told the driver to take him to the area of John and Queen streets and then indicated he was armed around 9:30 p.m.
"On arrival the suspect ordered the victim to get into the back seat of the taxi and the victim complied," police alleged in a report.
A suspect then began driving the cab, got into a collision with a parked vehicle and fled.
A man was arrested a short time later.
The victim escaped injury. No weapon was seen.
An investigation revealed a suspect and another male were involved in an earlier robbery of a business, police said.
Malik Richmond, 20, has been charged with threatening death, forcible confinement, possessing property obtained by crime, failing to remain and two counts of robbery.
