Gingersnaps win championship game in squirt division

The Gingersnaps won the Islington Rangers Squirt Girls division on Sept. 21 at Ourland Park. The team of seven and eight year olds beat the White Team with a final score of 3-1. Assistant coach Tom Oldfield said the girls ability to pass, dribble and play as a team in different positions was key to their success.

The Gingersnaps won the championship game in the Islington Rangers Squirt Girls division for seven and eight year olds.

The soccer game was held on Sept. 21 at Ourland Park in Etobicoke with a final score of 3-1 against the White Team sponsored by Suboch Law.

The team's record was 11 wins, two losses and one tie.

"We were fortunate to have a group of girls who always tried their best and who really improved their skills at practice," said assistant coach Tom Oldfield. "Learning how to pass and dribble the ball and play as a team, in every different positions, was key to our success."

Claire Dalton was scoring leader. She scored a key penalty kick goal in the top right corner of the net.

Team players include Kathryn Green, Sadie Houston, Erin Walkovich, Katie Cherry, Natalie Grzegorczyk, Keely O'Brien, Rebecca Chamberlain, Macy Kerrigan, Olivia Alsop, Georgia Koep-Freifeld, Erin Schlosser, Katelyn Wylie, Amy McPherson, Tessa Diperdomenico, Claire Dalton, Sarah Mavor, Mackenzie Oldfield, Silvana Delvalle, Julia Perus and Tate Carman-Gardiner.

The team coach was Nancy Chamberlain and Oldfield, Rob Koep and Steve Alsopi and Dan Perus were assistant coaches.
