A 17-year-old male has been charged in connection with the Nov. 11 stabbing at C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute on Sentinel Road near Finch Avenue and Keele Street.

A 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the torso during an altercation at the school during the lunch hour. He was taken to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, who can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, turned himself in to police at 31 Division Thursday evening. He has been charged with aggravated assault.

“Investigators would like to commend the students and staff of C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute as they were instrumental in this investigation,” police said in a news release.

In May 2007, 15-year-old Jordan Manners was shot dead at the school.

A police officer will now be assigned to C.W. Jefferys, which has 32 surveillance cameras and three safety monitors.

Anyone with information on the stabbing is asked to call 31 Division at 416-808-3100 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
