I can well understand why my neighbours in Guildwood might see the building of windmills in the lake as a challenge to the revival of the Guild Inn.
They have worked very long and hard trying to restore the beauty of that site, and the proposal to build a wind farm close by arrives just when they thought their efforts were about to be rewarded.
But they need to recognize that the Guild is a significant natural heritage landscape as well as a cultural one. The fact is that windmills will enhance the Guild and foster national and international recognition of the significant work done by H. Spencer Clark at his own expense - some would say at his wife Rosa's expense - in consultation with the then Metro Toronto and Region Conservation Authority to develop the technology that will soon lead to the preservation of the bluffs right across Scarborough.
