At only 20 years of age, Beach native Katie Boland has already appeared in dozens of films and television shows alongside some big-name actors.
Boland, who now lives in the distillery historic district, said her latest film, Growing Op, is by far one of the most amusing projects she's worked on.
"It was a lot of fun because (my character, Hope Dawson) was very different from me," said Boland, a Malvern Collegiate alumnus.
She said one of the best parts of the coming-of-age flick was the chance to work with accomplished leading lady, Rosanna Arquette.
"She's in some of my favourite movies," said Boland, who played Arquette's daughter in the film.
Growing Op, which was released in Canadian theatres on Friday, Nov. 21, tells the story of a young man's struggles to come to terms with the fact he was raised in a marijuana grow-op.
Boland plays his wild-child sister Hope, who has embraced the lifestyle and has no problem dealing the homegrown herb.
No stranger to the camera, Boland's been acting professionally since the age of nine.
"I was always really interested in people and observing them," said Boland, whose mother, Gail Harvey, is an award-winning film director.
Boland, who divides her time between Toronto and Los Angeles, said she aspires to develop her own film and TV-show ideas as her career progresses.
"It's very important to create your own work," said Boland, who has just finished filming a television movie called Taking a Chance on Love, which is expected to air in January.
She's also recently worked on Atom Egoyan's new film Adoration, among other films.
