Re. 'Community Health Centre needed in Don Mills area,' Letters, June 27.
At last we not only have someone who understands the seriousness to the community should this facility be broken up but also has a viable solution.
Mr. Timbrell, as our former health minister and representative of this community, is very much aware that the residents of Don Mills need to retain their medical services. He is familiar with the government's systems and is conversant with their plans to increase community healthy facilities. If this government-funded health facility was obtainable for Don Mills it could be included as part of the proposed community centre.
With our hospitals becoming increasingly overburdened and a large growth in population expected, not just in Don Mills but close by, it is important that we continue to have the present medical services available to us.
If we could be assured that this facility would be built, I feel positive that Cadillac Fairview would agree to delay the conversion of 75 The Donway West, thereby enabling our medical practitioners to remain as tenants until this became available.
We need to put pressure on our politicians and voice our concerns. If we do not act now we face the daunting possibility of having to travel out of the area for all of our medical services and possibly in separate locations.
This would not only be a significant loss to the whole community but particularly to those in motor scooters and wheelchairs and those who at the present time cannot afford the short taxi drive to their doctors.
It's important to take positive action now and contact your Members of Parliament, David Caplan and Kathleen Wynne, and make them aware of the necessity to their constituents to retain a centrally located medical centre in Don Mills.
