The road surface and the water main that runs beneath Jameson Avenue is being reconstructed and as a result portions of the road are scheduled to be closed through to November.

The Jameson Avenue reconstruction project starts in September after the CNE closes.

"Some of the other routes are closed off in the area and we didn't want to start pandemonium down there," said Maurizio Barbon, the city's manager of design and construction.

According to Dan Chiu, senior project engineer with the City of Toronto, work should begin on Sept. 10.

The construction will involve complete closures of short segments of roadways and no through traffic will be allowed during the water main installation and the road reconstruction.

"During the water-main reconstruction one-way south bound will be maintained," Chiu explained. "However, during road reconstruction the portion that is being worked on will be closed completely except to local traffic."

Driveway accesses to the apartment buildings will be maintained at all times, Chiu said.

The project will be done in two portions, moving south to north. The company contracted to complete the $3-million project, Trisan Construction, will begin by replacing the water main and water services from Springhurst Avenue to King Street West. Once complete the road reconstruction on that portion will begin while at the same time crews will continue north working to replace the water main and water services from King Street West to Queen Street West.

"I expect they will complete at best from Springhurst to King Street West," Chiu said. "The road reconstruction portion from King Street West to Queen Street West will carry over into next spring."

He explained this is the case with many projects scheduled to be completed in November.

"That is because of the climate," Chiu said. "Water main work can continue into the winter if need be but road work cannot."

However the roadway will be completed up to a point it will be accessible to traffic until the project resumes in April.

Pedestrian access to the waterfront will not be affected during the entire construction period.

The sidewalks will be redone during this project and Chiu said larger planters will be installed.

"Large trees will be maintained and smaller trees will be replaced next spring," Chiu said.
